    The Top 6 Things I Was Most Afraid of on the PCT

    ByEmily Schrick May 28, 2019December 28, 2024

    Before I jump into this list, I just want to point out that I felt much safer on trail than I did while living in Seattle. I feel like there’s so many worse ways to die in civilization than out in the wilderness. Maybe that’s…

    Snow Camping on the PCT

    ByEmily Schrick February 21, 2019January 10, 2025

    This January I went on my first-ever snow camping trip! This is something I’ve always wanted to try out, but I was nervous to do it alone just because, well, snow and cold. Luckily, I have some pretty awesome co-workers at REI who are more…

    PCT 2018 RECAP || Finances

    ByEmily Schrick February 7, 2019February 11, 2025

    Money is a huge trail topic. Some people may be surprised that doing a thru-hike and “living in the woods” for 4+ months actually isn’t very cheap. I kept a moderately detailed account of my expenses and was planning on writing this post since the…

    PCT 2018 RECAP || Food & Resupply

    ByEmily Schrick November 9, 2018November 26, 2025

    One of the most asked questions of thru-hikers from non-hikers is “But how do you carry food for that long?”, “What do you eat?” or some iteration of concern about how we feed ourselves on trail. What most people don’t realize is that these trails…

    A Day in the Life on the Pacific Crest Trail

    ByEmily Schrick October 18, 2018December 28, 2024

    Thru-hiking is pretty awesome. You get to see beautiful places, eat whatever you want, sleep under the stars every night, breathe fresh mountain air. What more could you ask for? Thru-hiking is great, and it is also incredibly glamorized. It’s not like a regular backpacking…

Hey, I'm Emily!

I thru-hiked the Pacific Crest Trail as a beginner backpacker in 2018 and haven't been able to stop backpacking, hiking, and adventuring ever since!

My goal is to help other women feel more confident in being outside, planning their own outdoor-focused trips, and exploring our wild spaces - in the USA and beyond.
